I’m still alive!

I haven’t forgotten about my blog!  (Just fyi).

Essentially, I’ve been doing a LOT of traveling this week.  So, naturally, the blog falls behind.  But, for kicks and giggles, here’s my take on the Avatar-Oscar fiasco:

Avatar does not deserve to win.   The end.

No, seriously.  It doesn’t.  Unless you’re talking about “Best Special Effects,” Avatar is not creative or original enough to win the other categories.  Visually, it was one of the most impressive movies I’ve ever seen.   But for the other categories…not so much.  Apparently, James Cameron thinks Avatar will get the snub at the Oscars.  I wouldn’t call it a snub.  A snub would be saying you deserve the award, but didn’t get it.   Avatar simply doesn’t deserve to win the awards.  Story is perhaps the biggest part of a movie.  Avatar’s was bland and predictable.  Now, there’s something to be said for a simplistic story that doesn’t throw in plot twists for the sake of plot twists, but, unfortunately, Avatar stepped beyond charming simplicity and entered the realm of cliche and longwinded.

Don’t get me wrong, I appreciated Avatar for what it accomplished, especially on a technical level.  But to me, the story was completely lacking.

And that’s why I don’t think it should win too many Oscars.
